Technology

This technology is a novel platform for transcutaneous immunization based on a topical vaccine formulation applied directly to the skin.

The formulation combines imiquimod, dithranol (anthralin), and a suitable antigen epitope to induce strong cellular immune responses without invasive administration.

Dithranol acts as a co-adjuvant that enhances activation of antigen-presenting cells and promotes the release of immune-stimulatory cytokines, while imiquimod provides additional immune activation and the antigen epitope defines the disease-specific target.

Together, these components create a synergistic mechanism that drives efficient priming of CD4 and CD8 T cells and supports the generation of durable immune  memory after topical administration.

Applications

-The platform can be adapted for prophylactic and therapeutic vaccination by selecting an appropriate peptide epitope for the target disease.

-This makes it relevant for immunization strategies against infectious diseases as well as cancer.

-Because the formulation is applied topically and non-invasively, it also offers potential in both human and veterinary medicine.

Technology stage

-The technology has been validated in vivo in mouse models, including demonstration of durable T-cell memory and protective efficacy in a viral challenge model.

Patents

-The technology is covered by patent application EP3646882A1.

-Further pending applications in USA, Canada, and Japan.
