Technology

Researchers at Goethe University Frankfurt identified immunodominant proteins of Bartonella bacilliformis that enable the development of immunological detection assays for infection diagnosis.

A total of 14 immunoreactive proteins were identified using reverse vaccinology and heterologous genomic expression libraries, and their seroreactivity was evaluated by line blots and ELISA.

Applications

-The technology is suited for serological detection of B. bacilliformis infection in laboratory-based diagnostic settings.

-It is particularly relevant for early diagnosis of Carrion’s disease, including mild and subclinical cases that may be missed by PCR-based approaches in field settings.

Technology stage

-The project has identified 14 immunoreactive proteins and demonstrated seroreactivity, sensitivity and specificity in experimental studies.

-An ELISA prototype already exists, providing a basis for further assay development and validation toward practical diagnostic use.

Patents

PCT patent application, WO2022180041A1, was filed on 22 February 2022 by Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University Frankfurt and Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia.
